BIRTH
Guide
Welcome
Meeting your baby for the first time is intense and wonderful, It’s an overload of emotions that you never knew existed before, and the beginning of a brand new journey for you and your partner. Birth photography is about documenting the arrival of your baby, whether this is at home, in hospital or a birthing center, vaginal or belly birthing. My focus is on raw connections between partners and the love-filled intimacy in the room, to look back on this your birth and remember this time is priceless.
First is about making mothers and not just making babies, I go into birth room and I am ready to capture the moments from labour and all the intensity of the emotions that the mother is travelling through, is about capturing the entire story of the moment that little miracle walks into this world. It is the most incredibly surge of emotions that you will ever experience in your life, it is the highest high a woman can feel, and for me to be able to capture these moments is such a gift.
BEFORE THE BIRTH
It is essential to make sure that we meet before your birth for a chat and to get to know one another. A birth is an extremely intimate time for you and your partner, and I want to make sure you feel completely at ease with me before the big moment
”I have been through two birth myself and I know exactly what you are going through, although every birth is different’’
Once you have decided that I am the right birth photographer for you, I will arrange a pre-birth consultation with both you and your partner (after all, it’ll probably be your partner I will mostly be communicating with on the day!)
We’ll talk through your birth plan, you’ll let me know what you would and would not like photographed, and I’ll answer any questions you have.
Unless you are planning a C-section, you'll know that exact plans are not easy to make. The baby will come when it’s ready, and that’s that. Yes, the logistics can be challenging, but we work together to make sure that I’m there at the right time and to keep the process stress-free.
Once you book me, I’m on call from week 38 to the birth. I love finding out how you’re doing, we’ll be in touch during this time, so don’t worry! The plan is usually for me to arrive when you are in established labour, and begin to capture your once-in-a-lifetime photos until a few hours after your baby is born. I very much blend into the background. Being a natural light photographer means I only use available light in the room, therefore I do not disturb the birthing journey with any kind of artificial light. But I will be fully present ready to capture the magic of life and always by your side for any extra support.
AT BIRTH
Once the baby has safely arrived and you are enjoying your first snuggles, I will be busy capturing every single special moment- giving you photographs that will encapsulate the relief, the love and all the pure, raw emotions. I’ll then leave, letting you rest and enjoy your brand new bundle of joy!
Due to the nature of birth being so unpredictable, and the logistics that come with being on call, I only take on a maximum of 5 births a year.
